Relationships & Sex Education

Relationships & Sex Education

Mill View provides Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) to all year groups from Reception to Year 6, also covering health education. RSE is incredibly important as it provides the key building blocks of healthy, respectful relationships, focusing on family and friendships, in all contexts, including online. With our children growing up in an ever changing society and technologically advanced world, it is incredibly important that our teaching of RSE is consistent throughout all year groups and of the highest quality. For these reasons, our RSE curriculum comes directly from the Christopher Winter programme. Children in all year groups cover RSE at an age appropriate level, and this knowledge is delivered by children's class or familiar teachers.

RSE curriculum information

The Christopher Winter programme overview is available on the document links below. It is important parents are aware of the areas their children will cover so they can support learning and discussions at home, answering any questions they may have. To support this, a breakdown of what is covered within RSE in each year group and the end points for RSE for each year group, can be found as part of the Progression in RSHE document in our Subject Documents.

RSE policy

School also has a school policy which sets out our approach to delivering RSE within school. The policy is specific to relationships, sex and health education and can be downloaded from our Policies page.

Parent consultation

With such an ever changing and fast paced society, we understand the importance of regularly consulting with parents regarding our RSE curriculum. We will do this on an annual basis via an electronic form which is sent out to all parents in school. This form also contains information on how parents can withdraw their child from sex education within schools should they wish to do so. However there is no right for parents to withdraw their child from relationships or health education.

Further questions

Should parents have any questions regarding the RSE offer at Mill View Primary, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or a member of the senior leadership team, we will be happy to provide assistance.
