PE and Sport Premium

PE Sport Funding

The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum  to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers.

At Mill View, we are committed to ensuring that our Sport Premium Funding is used to achieve and enhance 5 key indicators:

  • Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  • Raise the profile of PE and Sport across school
  • Increase confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • Broaden experiences through the range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • Increase participation in competitive sport

We have identified priorities for 2025/26 that will ensure that we are able to confidently meet these key indicators.

  • Maintain a high profile for physical activity across the school, embedding sport and movement into the wider culture and ethos of the school.
  • Drive participation in a wide range of sports and physical activities, ensuring all pupils have access to a diverse and inclusive PE curriculum and extracurricular offer.
  • Utilise the Chester Schools Sports Partnership and Chester School Sport Association to provide extensive opportunities for pupils to take part in a wide range of competitive sporting events, including inter-school competitions, festivals, and tournaments.
  • Ensure all pupils achieve 60 active minutes daily, incorporating initiatives such as the Daily Mile to promote regular movement throughout the school day.
  • Continue to boost levels of regular physical activity for all children, particularly through structured breaktime and lunchtime activities and enhanced extracurricular provision.
  • Upskill and develop staff in their planning and delivery of high-quality PE lessons, with a continued focus on sustainable and confident teaching across all key stages.
  • Continue to enhance the Dance curriculum in partnership with House of Dance, providing professional input to broaden pupil experience and engagement in creative movement.
  • Increase participation of pupils with SEND in extracurricular sporting activities and competitive events, ensuring accessibility and inclusion are prioritised.
  • Facilitate and promote girls' football, ensuring it is visible, valued, and inclusive, with regular competitive opportunities provided.
  • Increase engagement of EAL pupils in physical activity, both within school and in community-based events, by removing barriers to participation and promoting inclusive practice.
  • Engage disadvantaged and EAL pupils more widely in physical activity and sport through targeted clubs, mentoring, and partnership with external organisations.
  • Ensure all pupils meet national swimming standards by the end of Key Stage 2, including providing additional catch-up sessions for those who need further support.
